Bailey is ready to leave the broken-down housing co-op run by her father, where everyone knows everyone else’s business and amateur tunes from the music school on the first floor play day and night. But just as she’s ready to leave and pursue her dreams, tragedy strikes and Bailey’s tasked with saving the co-op and everyone in it.

As a shiny new high rise goes up next door and political forces threaten the co-op’s survival, Bailey is pulled between the needs of others and her own ambitions. As she reaches her breaking point, a little bit of magic gives her a look into an alternate reality.

The House Rules premiered with the Ottawa School of Theatre at the Shenkman Arts Centre November 27-30, 2025, featuring a cast of 55 actors ranging in age from 6 to 80, playing together as equals, and directed by yours truly.
