I believe in radical hospitality as a personal, political, and artistic virtue. There is a reason why a theatre is also called a house. Regardless of how small and unglamorous the living space, I have always hosted potlucks, parties, and travelers on my couch. I believe in letting people see who I am, and in trying to see who they are. I believe it’s powerful to admit, “I don’t understand. Can you tell me more?”
I’m a playwright, director, and intimacy director, and the Artistic Director of the Ottawa School of Theatre, where I direct and produce large-scale intergenerational plays (think casts of 40-95 performers of all ages). Whether working with professionals or non-professionals, I’m committed to kindness, openness, and artistic rigour.
I have a BFA in Theatre & Development from Concordia University, and took a detour through social work and community housing, leading to a decade of facilitating drama for groups of people with different abilities and backgrounds. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing with a playwriting focus from the University of Guelph, and now focus my energies primarily on playwriting, and artistic direction of the Ottawa School of Theatre.
